|Inspirations (or, what guides your ministry)||Charitable work, first and foremost. Helping the community. Showing people they are loved and loveable. Connecting with the unconnected.|
|Is there a favorite quote you’d like to share?||“I’m not missing a minute of this – it’s the revolution!” – Sylvia Rivera|
|Background (tell us more about yourself)||I was born on the other side of a town ripped in two. I made it over the great divide, now I’m comin’ for you.|
I’m a 2nd generation Mexican-American non-binary transwoman operating with original parts and modified firmware in the full-fledged awkwardness of flesh space.
|Vision (tell us more about your plans going forward as a member)||I first experienced the sisters when I was living in Portland, OR. I knew it was something I wanted to do, but the timing was never right. When I moved to Louisville in 2010, I was certain it would never happen. My connection to the community was tenuous at best, having just exited the long term relationship that brought me here as I came out as transgender and was promptly dismissed from my job of 3 years under suspicious “totally not transphobic” circumstances. DCS has given me many connections to the community, both as Zsa Zsa and Demeter (and occasionally, Tranjelica Houston – the worlds fattest Alanis Morrisette impersonator) and for that I am forever grateful. I look to further those connections, for myself and others, building community like i’m the 1980’s LEGO Space Man making a rocket ship.|
Having the opportunity to come on board early and help grow DCS has been a tremendous blessing and simultaneously one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. Learning to balance joy (for others as much as myself) with hard work and interpersonal conflict has been a tough journey, but I’m definitely a better person for it. My hopes for our organization is that we will grow in strength, number and outreach . I want us to be an unstoppable juggernaut of queer mayhem. but like, in a fun way.
